Our History

Serving the Adelaide Hills Since 1926, Adelaide Hills Toyota is the 21st Century expression of over 110 years of the Gilbert family’s local involvement with personal transport.

Initially formed as a bicycle manufacturing business by Stephen Gilbert in Milang the firm relocated to Strathalbyn around 1919 under Wally Gilbert to form Gilbert’s Garage and then expanded to Mt Barker under Roy Gilbert in 1926.

Dealer Principal Tom Gilbert, who commenced selling cars in 1992 after graduating from university, represents the fifth generation of one of Australia’s oldest continually operating motor car dealers. The commitment of the family to local business and Hills clients has seen the firm survive 2 world wars and various major economic challenges.

That spirit of commitment to service continues with the strong desire to offer the best value possible for your motoring dollar. Sponsorship to Hills sporting bodies, support of service clubs and environmental projects has been continuous by family members.
